Although Nello was a poor boy, Jehan Daas and Nello were happy. One summer day, they found Patrasche and adopted the dog. Some time ago Patrasche had a new job.
  Nello wanted to be a painter. He was smart. He heard of a drawing contest. Two hundred francs would be given to the first-prize winner. Nello believed that this was his opportunity to improve himself, so he began to work very hard. 
  One night, there was a big fire at the mill. Nello wanted to help. Baas Coges said that he started the fire.
A rumor began to appear that Nello had started the fire. From that day on, Jehan Daas and Nello didn’t have a job. For Nello, the only hope was the drawing contest. Christmas was coming. Baas Cogez died. They even coudn’t pay rent. The landlord told them to get out.
  The winner of the prize was to be announced at noon. Nello entered the room. He saw a big drawing on the wall. It wasn’t his own. He said “It’s all over.” He began to hang around with Patrasche. Suddenly, Patrasche found a wallet. It’s Baas Cogez’s. Nello went to Baas Cogez’s home and returned for him. He praised them and adopted Patrasche. Baas Cogez began to regret. Nello and Patrasche fell asleep and never woke up.
  The story was not happy.
